It is a literal translation for Guazi Pian, so called because the dried leaf is long and flat and as the leaf unfolds in water it resembles the seed of a melon. Over time the name has been shortened to Gua Pian, or Melon Slice. Melon Slice is primarily produced in Liu’an District in the Dabie mountains of western Anhui Province. The leaves are beautiful to look at and wonderful to taste.
